Modern cars have become very complex, containing on-board computers or modules that control and monitor things like emissions levels, engine performance and even windscreen wipers. When things go wrong, you may see a warning light on your dashboard, but these only give a small part of a bigger picture.

Using the latest diagnostic equipment we can pick up on these errors and identify what they mean, so component failures can be prevented before they lead to further damage or expensive repairs.

Most are generalist repairers with limited resources and training. If your workshop choice is limited to “plugging in their computer” to see what the problem is and telling you the “computer said it was X,Y or Z” it’s time to look elsewhere as this will likely mean they’ll waste a lot of your money by throwing multiple parts at the problem until it’s either fixed or you run out of money.

We focus heavily on diagnostics. What this means is that our expertise, skill, knowledge, training and resources can be applied to your problem to solve it in the quickest and most cost effective manner.

  • What does the check engine light mean?

The check engine light is one of the most misunderstood warnings your vehicle can give you. When a module or computer finds a problem in the electronic-control system that it can’t correct, the computer turns on a yellow warning indicator that’s labeled “check engine,” “service engine soon,” or “check powertrain.”  In addition to turning on the light, the computer stores a “trouble code” in its memory that identifies the source of the problem, such as a malfunctioning sensor or a misfiring engine.

  • What should I do if the check engine light comes on?

If the “check engine” light illuminates you should have the cause diagnosed as soon as possible. The light could mean many different things and by ignoring the warning, you could end up damaging expensive components.
